Welcome to Plas yn Dinas, a charming country pub nestled in the heart of Llanfechain in the beautiful Welsh countryside.
Plas yn Dinas’ core mission is to partner with and support local businesses, using fresh local ingredients in our kitchen and local ales on our taps, to produce the highest quality meals and accompanying drinks for our patrons.
Our Commitment to Quality
Our commitment to serving the best quality food we can has naturally led us to source locally wherever we can. Supporting the local area and other businesses is extremely important to us here at Plas yn Dinas.
We want to do our best to continue the traditions that have allowed the pub to thrive for generations as part of the Llanfechain community and give back wherever we can.
Seasonal & Sustainable
Blessed as we are to be located in the heart of Wales, it only makes sense to make the most of the incredible produce that is available around us. Our bespoke menu changes based on the seasonal produce available. This is not only a sustainable choice but ensures top-quality ingredients with the least mileage; fresh is best!
Each seasonal menu has been carefully thought out and handcrafted by our award-winning chef, Ryan McCartney. By combining traditional pub classics with Ryan’s culinary creativity, we ensure your taste buds are delighted with unique flavours upon every visit.
It is not just our kitchen in which quality is prioritised, our taps feature some of the best local beers and ciders that Mid Wales and the English border have to offer. We are also passionate about wine here at Plas Yn Dinas. Our wine list has been lovingly curated and offers suggested dish pairings should you be in need of some inspiration.
Supporting The Local Economy
Where possible all of the meat, vegetables and fruits that enter our kitchen are sourced either directly from local farms or local businesses such as greengrocers and butchers.
A cornerstone of the Plas yn Dinas legacy that has led to us being one of the oldest public houses in Montgomeryshire, supporting local businesses and contributing to the local economy is something we will do forever.
Ethical Rearing & Sustainability
We can track the majority of the ingredients we use back to the farm (and sometimes even the exact field) where they are grown or reared. Some are even within a stone’s throw.
We believe that happy animals make for the best meat. So, it is important to us that we only source our produce from ethical farmers and butchers, to ensure that what we are cooking for our patrons is of the highest quality.
History of
Plas yn Dinas
The Plas yn Dinas building dates back to 1702, originally functioning as a Courthouse. It was later converted to a public house and is one of the oldest surviving pubs in Montgomeryshire. The building is grade 2 listed, meaning many of the original features have been preserved, one of our favourites being the exposed wooden beams throughout.
Local timber was originally sent away to aid in the assembly of ships, on the understanding that when the ships were later dismantled, the timber would return to the village for construction. The strength of the wood would have increased immensely due to being fortified in the saltwater.
The interior of Plas yn Dinas has recently undergone a renovation that combines the original features of the building with a slightly more modern aesthetic, whilst still retaining its cosy atmosphere. We are proud to be continuing the legacy of serving the community of Llanfechain, Mid Wales and visiting tourists with our elevated seasonal menu and traditional ales.
Community & Events
Proudly standing at the heart of Llanfechain’s village for centuries, it is important for us to continue the Plas yn Dinas legacy and to give back to the community that has supported us for so long.
We love to support community events and celebrations as well as local sports teams, such as Llanfechain Football Club. Our goal is to create a shared community space to maintain our close-knit community.
We are always looking for new opportunities and new ideas for events to provide new and exciting experiences and things to do here in Llanfechain.
